I was wondering if anyone else was planning on going to the Newport Folk Festival next weekend. I'm planning on leaving either Thursday or Friday to sail from New Bedford to Newport, the departure day depends on the weather. I'm planning to spend the weekend on my boat listening to the music. I was looking for anyone else who'd like to raft up off of Fort Adams for the festival. It's been a couple of years since I've last done this, but the last time was a blast. Good music, good sailing, lots of fun.

Arrived yesterday

I arrived yesterday after an all day sail from New Bedford. I have tickets for the first show tonight. Then tomorrow morining we'll motor over to the fort to get a good spot. The sail to Newport was a blast. I had light winds through Buzzard's Bay, which is very unusual, So I had the old stink pot running for first few hours of the trip. Once I cleared Cutty Hunk the winds filled in I sailed the rest of the way. Don you are right about Keeping the sail flat in light winds. I was able to get 3kts of boat speed in 6 knts of wind. The plan is to sail back on Sunday.

Delay in return trip

Delayed return trip to this Saturday. Enjoyed the festival so much we stayed all the way to end. It was a lot of fun anchored off the stage that faced the bay. The only drawback was that the anchorage was rough from the ship wakes. The sunset trips back to the Mooring were absoutly beautiful, the sail back to the mooring in evenings were in light winds so they were stress free and very relaxing after spending the day at the anchorage with all the activity going on. Couldn't have asked for better weather.
