I recently purchased a 2000 H380. My goal is to sail it in the Newport-Bermuda Race in 2 years. Next year I expect to be in the Marblehead-Halifax race. My question... have any of you gone through all the prep work to meet the ISAF Cat 1 or 2 requirements? I've been told that if I'm going to go to all the work to get to Halifax, I might as well do the extra work now to get ready for Bermuda. Having a CE-A rated boat does not qualify you to race. It's all safety related. Thoughts?

A few years back I was going to do the N/B race. As I recall there had to be a least two crew on board that had attended a Safety at Sea seminar as well as various safety equipment like approved life raft, EPIRB, MOB module, first aid kit etc. All eight guys in my crew had the certification but we couldn't get our trip together. Planning this well in advance is a great idea. There are various deadlines, some six months out, that must be met before they will let you go.
