I have just purchased an older boat that has not been upgraded to the new specs. I have no holding tank and the head pumps directly through the hull. I see I will have to up-grade this system. I have a lot to do and haven't even begun to look for equipment. Links and a general overview would really help me get my bearings on this issue. Sorry this is such an open ended question but other than the fact I know this system cannot be used, I have no idea what to do or where to go next.

You can buy a flexible holding tank, which has the advantage of being very easy to install. You can rig one end to a pump-out fitting and one end to the head. It's a good idea to use a y-valve so that you can pump out through the hull and avoid using the tank when you want to.

That link isn't working right...

At least not for me...very little of the page loads. So take the long way: go to the forums menu on the homepage, and click on the Head Mistress forum...then on the link to the library on the forum homepage. Btw...I don't recommend flexible tanks for waste holding. Reasons are in the article "Holding Tank Odor--Odor Out the vent" in the library.
