Hey everyone. I'm a Newbie to the whole sailing thing. My parents are on a Lancer 36' and my boyfriend and I are about to embark on the adventure as well. I don't really know to much about the Irwin but I have found some in my price range and would really like some input as to what I should be looking for, how safe they are, etc. If anyone could give insight to "THE NEWBIE" I would really appreciate it. Thanks, Breigh

Great boat - but lot's of work depending ...

Hi, What size, year and style of Irwin are you thinking about? Do you have prior sailing experience (on anything)? Irwin makes a good forgiving boat and if you get a smaller (30 to 35) slope they're reasonably quick too. I new years 80's and up improved the interiors. Irwin's tend to leak a lot (topside I mean, not below the waterline) and depending on how well the prior owner took care of it, mildew (smelly bigles and lockers) can be a problem. We've had a 1978 Irwin since 1988 and we love it. You'll find bunches of people out there who can help with ideas for upgrades, repairs, etc. All in all, Irwin is a good choice not to break your purse (initially at least) David Hall

Good boat!

We really like our Irwin but wish we'd had a better surveyor. Had many leaks but all have been resolved. All boats leak.
