Newbie on a budget. 1982 Hunter 27, upper Chesapeake. Looks like there's Agreed Value and Liability Only coverages.

I assume most people get Agreed Value ? Looks like around $400 / year.

Am I nuts for considering Liability Only for $180 and saving a couple hundred ?

On either/both policies is "sinking" covered ?

Any company recommendations and/or policy ideas are appreciated.

Thanks in advance !

well, if you went to the boat one day and it was sitting on the bottom due to a bad thru hull and you think to yourself, i should have spent the $220, buy the full coverage. if on the other hand you can afford to have the fuel removed (your responsibility) pay the fine for leaking fuel, pay to have the boat brought back up and disposed of, and your wife wont be pissed about it, buy the liability insurance.

i would go full coverage, do agreed on the higher side to cover all the extras you added to your boat.

i use boat us. any company most likely will require a survey. sometimes if you use the company that the previous owner used they may not.

good luck

I have always had full coverage including liability insurance. I also have coverage up to 150 NM off shore. With out that added coverage, it is only covered up to 15 NM off shore. I have used US Power Squadron Insurance. That requires membership in USPS, but the cost of that and the insurance is less with them than with others including Boat/US.

I just use Allstate

For all my insurance, car, house, motorcycle and boat. For my 1995 Hunter 26, I have full coverage and only $248 a year. I only had the boat 4 days when the outboard was stolen. They paid well and right away.

does anybody here have any experience (good or bad) with claims on the US Power Squadron insurance?
