Gotta love a trailer boat for the spontaneous "good weather" day at any ramp around. We just had an overnighter from Sarasota to Venice and back on New Years eve that was a 10. Nearly had the Gulf to ourselves and topped off the fuel tank for $4 when it was over:). Wahoo. Happy New Year to all and to all a Broad reach. Michael on "Bonafide"

Tampa to Venice

Michael, We sailed from Tampa Bay to Crow's Nest Marina in Venice (55 NM)on the 30th and there was hardly any wind. We returned on Sunday 1st and had hardly any wind except the strech from #3 on Egmont Passage to under the Sunshine skyway bridge where we went screaming at 7.5 knots. A rather large power boat that was trying to pass in front of us backed off the power and went to our stern when I shortened the angle to collision point giving the impression that we were not going to back down. (which we would have in the next 2-3 seconds) They don't realize that when you got the wind after hours of just motoring that you are going to be a little reluctant to give it up. That 8 nm reach was worth the trip plus the fine Dinner at the Crow's Nest restaurant.

Light wind

Both days out the wind came up mid afternoon for a couple hrs which really made the day. Gulf side was all ours put the passes got busy with the power guys for sure. The Crows nest is great food and really convienient to venice pass. My Dad happens to live aboard about 1/2mi up the intercoastal. It was the ideal way to make your holiday visits, by boat. We ate over at a hidden spot called Capt Eddies. Very much a local favorite. No ambience, across hwy41 and difficult anchorage but the tastiest seafood ever. It might have been the winter sailing and drafts too:) Happy days. Michael

Nice Weather here too.......

The unusually nice warm weather New Years Eve and New Years Day gave us a nice overnighter on our MacGregor 26X here in Kemah, Texas. The water became crowded with bunches of fun seekers too, seemed everyone here had the same idea of enjoying the nice unseasonably warm sailing weather and celebrating the NEW YEAR DAY on the water... Happy Sailing !
