Hi Group,I am trying to find new seals for the windows in my Vega. A while back I read a post for new ones and cant remember who had them. The glass is still good, I just need to replace the rubber seals. Can anyone tell me where I can get replacements or suggest other alternatives.Thank youSheila KingPS I love the knowledge you all pass on. I'm having Liza overhauled and have used some of your ideas.

I bought and fitted new rubber seals a year or two ago, I’ll dig out the paperwork and let you know the details.    For my Mark 1 Vega I ordered the following: FS73 Chrome Filler Strip x 10 metres Door Seals, Rubber Seals, Rubber Extrusions, Window Rubbers UK | Seals Direct WR64 Window Section 5mm x 5mm x 10 Metres Door Seals, Rubber Seals, Rubber Extrusions, Window Rubbers UK | Seals Direct  I made my own tool .. maybe not the best advice. The large cabin windows leaked, and were awkward to replace. The small forward windows didn’t leak, but were a real pain to replace .. and I still haven’t got round to doing the one in the heads.  There’s a ‘knack’ to it .. the first window took perhaps an hour or more to do, the second only 20 minutes. It was hard work, but I’m very pleased with the result. It looks like I have a few feet left over, I didn’t want to take a chance.  Hope that helps,  Alisdair          From: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com [mailto:AlbinVega@yahoogroups.com] On Behalf Of Sheila KingSent: 04 September 2013 19:05To: AlbinVega@yahoogroups.comSubject: Re: [AlbinVega] New window trim  Thank you.   Very much appreciated. Sent from the iPad of Sheila KingOn 2013-09-04, at 1:04 PM, "Alisdair" <yahoo@...> wrote:

MY big windows were leaking where the
two ends of the rubber come together at the top. I went to West
marine and bought a little epoxy injector( plastic syringe). I put
black rubber sealer that I bought at a hardware store in it and
pushed the small end into the seam and squirted cement in starting
at the bottom of the seam filling and dragging the tip to the top
of the seam then I went inside and did the same. I let it dry for
a week and spayed it good with a hose and one window leaked a
couple drops. After drying a week Squirted some more in pushing
the syinge up from the bottom until the tip hit the glass and
squired some more rubber cement in, That has been 3 years ago and
so far so good, The rubber looked pretty bad on the outside and
the black rubbed off on me every time I got near them. I
scrubbed them and coated them with several coats of the silicone
vynal polish. I recoat in the spring and it holds up until early
fall. IF its too early in the fall I add another coat. With the
winter sun low it's ok until spring. So if yours is leaking at the
joint this may help for a while anyway. I am pretty happy with
mine. Doug

I found that I could do the large windows on my own but needed an
assistant for the small ones.

Assistant's job was to keep steady pressure on the window glass on
the inside as I seated the glass in the rubber seal.

Once I acquired enough beer to bribe an assistant the job was very
easy - impossible to do the small window seals solo imo due to the
high curvature..

Hi AlisdairMy mechanic and I are trying to install the windows using the new seals but spent all yesterday and only got one of the big windows in. Can you explain the exact procedure of how you got them in. I have the tool and the instructions that come with it are very vague. Please help if you can. ThanksBest regardsSheila. I haven't done the job, but I'm guessing that ypu might be able to try the technique on a youtube.com video: search for "installing a back window glass with a cord". Good luck tg

A day isn't too far off the mark for a first window. The second should go in lot quicker once you work out the knack of how to do it.I made my self a tool from a piece of wood (an old Vega cleat, but six inches of broom handle would do) to which I lashed a strong U- or diamond-shaped loop of wire (a large brass split pin from the depths of my tool box IIRC, though I did make one with strong SS wire - it just needs to be strong and smooth). The tool is pushed into the channel (rubbers already in the widow surround) and twisted to open it up and let the glass in. There needs to be a lot pressure on the edge of the glass to force it in, and because it's slippy ensure that it can't go overboard .. and has something soft to land on inboard .. if it ends up pinging. When you eventually get the glass inserted, you can run the tool around the seal to ensure there are no curled bits of rubber.links:http://www.sealsdirect.co.uk/bbCMS/...ice-on-fitting-windows-window-rubbersAlisdair

Well thanks all, the windows are in! I found the secret. Since both the opening and the glass were the same thickness we just used the more open grove for the glass. It took us five hours to do one yesterday and we did five today in less than four hours. So glad that job is done. They look great with the little Crome trim in the centre. I'll try to figure out how to put a picture on the website. Thanks for all your great suggestions. I love the chat group and I love my Vega. RegardsSheila KingSent from the iPad of Sheila King
