Has anyone installed or had any experience with the new Variable Speed water pumps. Are they as quiet and not have the noisy cycling of the ones we have always had ? Do they draw any more amps ?

Hey, Tony.. I put one (Shurflo Smart Sensor 4.0) in a few months ago and it is very quiet.. It draws a very little current while it is not working, 15 milliamperes claimed, and a good bit less when running at the same flow than the old one did. It takes the sensor a second or two to realize it needs to run so when you open the faucet, the flow is slow for about 2-3 seconds then it comes up.. Different and annoying at first, but I am OK with it now. My old Shurflo 225-3000 lasted 20 years.

We have used the Shurflo for 7 years on a P 42. Very quiet, uses less electricity and pumps pleanty of water. If you have two people using a lot of water at two sinks, the pump will run as loudly as the old on/off pumps. Otherwise, very quiet.

Flojet VSD are great pumps. While I have had some of the previous models they can wake up the dead. The VSD pumps are always quite. Even if you have a couple of faucets going at the same time, we can barely hear ours run.

I have no opinion with the Shurflo pumps, 'cause I have never used one.
