I need major help!! My wife and I want to sail so we bought a 20+ year old Capri 13. Everything is great except we do not know how to rig any of the roping. Does anyone have a schematic or a diagram or a booklet or something they can download to me so we can get started. We have been trying like crazy to get help but no one wants to help! Better yet, one guy would do it it we took $500 sailing lessons. Replies and help would be greatly appreciated. I have four days off next week and the boat has been in the driveway for three weeks. I am about ready to just take a paddle and paddle around. Thanks, Bob

re: Catalina 13

Bob, go to the Catalina Yachts site. Click on the link below. Once you get in, go to the Catalina 13. You'll see a photo giving you an idea of how it's rigged. Also, you can download the brochure. Happy sailing!

Lessons aren't a bad idea

I know folks like to just jump in feet first but most of the time, sailing lessons are NOT a waste of money. I don't blame the guy for wanting to get paid - it's no fun holding someone's hand for free cuz once you get the running rigging (aka: "roping") all set up, you have to show them what each "rope" does. I'm not trying to be hard on you but sailing isn't just as easy as a jetski. There's skill involved, which can be easily learned, but I think you need to have someone teach you what's what and why, at least in the beginning - be it a person or a book or a video. It sounds like neither of you have any experience at all. If you want you or your wife to just say "To hell with it" and give up, try to learn all this stuff on your own. Otherwise, take a class, lessons or something. Sailing is a fantastic pasttime and well worth any effort you put into it. Good luck and above all, have fun! LaDonna

I sympathize

I too just bought a Catalina Capri 13. However I've been sailint since about age 6 and even raced 420's in college, however I can't figure out how to rig the thing either. The previous owner obviously had no clue either which is confusing me even more. Did you get a respone to your inquiry and if so can you forward it my way. Thanks!
