Just purchased a new Icom M422 for my Hunter. couple install questions that the manual is a bit foggy on. 1. When attaching to GPS for DSC do I only need to connect the "out" from the GPS to the "in" on the radio? I dont expect to connect anything else to thr radio so I am assuming the "in" lead is all I need to worry about. correct? 2. Where do I get my MMSI (marine mobile service ID) number? Which identifies me to the radio if I need to use DSC. Thanks. Bob F.

Wires and forms

Assuming it is a NMEA 183 format then it is a two wire deal and GPS out to VHF in is all there is to it. WM has the forms for your ID # and I think you can also do it on line but don't know the link.

MMSI

You can get a MMSI number on line in about 5 minutes at Boat/US. Just keep in mind that the number is only good while in USA waters, as it is not tied into the Coast Guard data base. If you want one that is good internationally, that is done by the FCC.

Icom M422 connections

We purchased an Icom M422 a short while ago and did exactly what you're asking about. We failed to realize that the radio's NMEA in and out connection wires are actually small coaxial cables. The data is transferred on the center wire while the ground is connected to the braided shielding. I'll attach a link to IcomAmerica.com website which makes it much clearer. Once there, just click on the link "M422 GPS connections.pdf" You'll love the radio. We do. Gary Kunkel
