Oday 302 Lake Perry, KS
I have a new/old O'Day 302 with the original midboom traveler. It's a beast to adjust: move the peg on one side, pull like hell on the car, move the peg on the other side. Not my idea of fun. I'd like to upgrade. Any suggestions/experience on what to buy, look for, look out for would be great. Thanks for your help.

Like cheating

The Harken windward sheeting car is a pleasure to use, provided you have enough mechanical advantage. No pins to pull or set, just two cleats on the lines on either side. You can pull it up or ease it with one hand at will, which makes trimming the main something you enjoy rather than avoid. It's more costly than a more traditional car, but boy is it worth the extra money!

Check out Garhauer

Steve, check out Garhauermarine.com for their travelers and blocks, assuming you may want to upgrade the mainsheet at the same time as the traveler. The advantages over Harken, Lewmar etc. is you get a lot more gear for a lot less $$$. And since you order direct from the manufacturer they are willing to do some custom fitting, such as cutting the track to your required length and drilling the track holes to match your existing ones, all at no extra cost to you.
