For cleaning out the engine...

I assume you are talking about the heat exchanger, try a product called Marsolve. I have heard good things about it when it is used in the cooling jackets of raw-water cooled engines. http://www.marsolve.com/ Good Luck - Rob

Hi Ed, Congrats on the boat. I'm sure you'll love it. I think your hull number is pretty good evidence you chose a good boat. Catalina made over 6500 30's so they had to be doing something right! I assume your sailing in the Boston, Hull,Cape Cod Bay and lower cape and islands area. I would recommend a chartplotter with waas GPS. I imagine you have the speed and depth gauges already on the boat. If they're analog and on the cabin trunk walls in the cockpit you may want to convert to digital gauges because they're easier to read at a distance. I would imagine the boat has a good quality VHF radio, if not get one. I get a lot of use out of my autopilot, for me it's essential, I wouldn't be without it. But that's a matter of preference. Regards, Chris

For mainsheet blocks and other hardware, check out Garhauer. They're on the web (garhauermarine.com)and are the OEM for Catalina. You should seriously consider their rigid vang, it's a great piece of equipment for a reasonable price. They have hardware packages already made up for Catalina 30s. They're also great to deal with over the phone and are very knowledgeable.
