I am new to boating. How do I know when fiberglass or gelcoat need to be repaired. Are spider cracks ok? Are most repairs cosmetic or are they required to stop water entering the hull?

Don't be afraid of spiders . . .

They won't hurt you. Spider cracks are common stress cracks, and they are due to the fact that gelcoat is more brittle than the fiberglass base. So, it tends to crack in areas where it flexes. Minor cracks are not a worry, the big gaping cracks are more concerning. Regards, Ted

I agree

I agree with Ted - spider cracks are mostly a cosmetic issue.
