Just got the boat this week -- filled the water tank, turned on the valve -- turned on the pressure water switch on the electrical panel -- turned on a faucet --- but nothing :-( -- after a few seconds the switch tripped off. Cleaned out the strainer - tried again - no luck. It also sounds like the hot water tank is empty. How do you get water in the tank? Any ideas, I'm hoping it might just be something I've overlooked. Thanks! Aside from the small issue of no water :) the boat is a dream! I had so much fun sailing her this weekend. She is so much easier to sail than my old 26. I feel like I won the lottery!

Check

the vent for the water tank- there should be a little cover over the opening on the outside of the hull. I have a problem with spiders getting in the opening and restricting the air flow. I always make sure I run the tank over when I fill so that water runs out the vent washing the clog out. The other possibility is that your pump needs a new rebuild kit ( not much cheaper than a new pump) I replaced the Shurflo on my H34 last year as it had gotten so old a kit was no longer available. The new Par pump works like a charm

On our 280, there is a full time 'connection' for the hot water tank.

(Addition - there may be vlaves right at the water heater that needs to be turned on. Have you used the hot/cold water before?) Just to understand . . you turn the Pressure Water breaker on and there is no water AND no sound? Not even a 1 sec. brrrrp? Ours takes < 1 sec to pressure up but you can hear it. If no sound and the Pressure Water breaker pops; I'd suspect the breaker or pump. If there is a sound but no water flows with faucet open, it could be a clogged vent. Check that by opening the water fill cap and see if it still fails.

TRIPPED SWITCH

I had the same problem with a H 27. After running for over a year, one day the pump did not work. It just tripped the switch/breaker. If this is what is happening to you it sounds like it is either a short in the wiring or the pump is seized up, kaput, no good, dead, finished. To troubleshoot I would start by disconnecting the hot lead at the pump. If the switch/breaker still trips, then the problem is in your wiring. If the switch/breaker does not trip then I would run a temporary hot lead to your pump to see if the pump is still functional. Be carefull if you are running a lead that is not fused. The wire can get very hot if the pump is seized or shorted. My pump was dead and had to be replaced. Good luck.

Water Pump

When you first flipped the switch, did you hear the pump run at all?? If not, then I'd be inclined to follow Teds troubleshooting. With a simple volt-ohm meter, you should be able to do a quick check on the wiring for power to the pump and for any shorts in the wiring. If so, did it run for a few seconds and then stop? Did it really pop the breaker or did it just stop running? It'll do that when it reaches pressure. If you're opening faucets and no water is running, then you either have a valve shut somewhere, a clogged line, or a clogged vent. I've even had the screens at the end of the faucet clog on me in the past with sediment. Good luck and check back in if you still have issues. T J Furstenau

Thanks for your ideas

Thanks for everyone's ideas. The vent was clogged. I disconnected the wiring from the pump and checked it on the tester. It seemed to be ok and the switch did not trip. So I ordered a new pump. Thanks again!
