Hello Fellow Mac Owners!
What brand of sails are you using on your Macs? I have a '92 Classic and I have Hood sails on board that have served me Very Well over the years, but are nearing the end!! I'm looking for the best quality that I can find at a reasonable price. (Aren't we all?!) The stock sails are a possibility but I would like full battons, a loose foot, and at least 2 reefs. I've looked at the sail warehouse, and the sail store, and MacGregor. Please give me your input as to what you have and what you like/don't like about the brand of sail that you have. Looking to make the purchase soon! Thanks to all who drop a line!
Cheers!

We bought new sails from Martin at Somerset Sails...

..this past year and love them. I can't believe how much better they look and work vs. the stock sails that were on the boat when we got it. Granted these are new and those were old, but these have much better stitching and reinforcing.

The 135 furling Genoa has a radial cut and he put on the protecting leading edge in the correct color to match the rest of the canvas on the boat. Since it isn't a normal stocked color sunbrella we ordered it from Sailrite and had it drop shipped to him and he sent us what was left over.

The main is full batten and loose footed and is reefed in the picture above. There again no comparison to the old main in construction. He put in one higher reef and would of put in 2, but asked me to try the one and if I didn't like it he would put in a second for no extra charge. So far I don't see us putting in the second one, but he will if you so desire. Tell him what you are thinking and how you want to use the boat and he will give you some ideas, but not try and oversell you.

These sails were about $100 to $150 more apiece than the cheapest I could fine, but with the radial cut on the furler and the full battens and loose foot on the main I think are much better sails. Considering the life span we will probably get we are talking about $15 -$30 more a year cost over their life time.

Bob Hussey who had a Mac recommended Martin to me and I'm glad that he did. He bought sails from him and really liked them. One nice thing is getting sails of this quality that are made here in the states and are made for you and not assembly line sails. There are some other Mac owners with his sails. He is in up-state New York and if we do the Erie next summer we hope to see him as he isn't too far from the canal.

At least give him a call for a quote and tell him I told you to call.

Sum

Hey Sum - I really like the sail bag idea. I have the EZJacks already installed and there is a good upholstery guy near my work. Tell your little bride, Good Work on all those neat upgrades she helps you with.
My sails are fairly new from the PO but I will have them looked at in Havasu.
