The mainsail on my 22 is original (1980). It seems crisp to my inexperienced eye. The sail does have stains and the "O" is faded.

I will either have it cleaned or replace it over the winter. I was wondering if The shops that clean them can also dye color the, "O" on the sail. Has anyone had this done.

If your sail is that old, and you plan to get a new one, there's absolutely no reason to pay someone to clean it. Unless it hasn't been used pretty much at all over the past 30 years, it's stretched out and shot. Save the cleaning money to put towards your new sail.

Use some Tide powdered detergent and Oxyclean to get it as clean as you can for the rest of the season.

You might also try some fabric paint from a craft store or fabric store to refresh your O insignia.

Hope this helps,
Brian

Thanks, I picked up some sail cleaner. I will look for the fabric paint also.

I may pick up a new sail over the winter. If I do send it out for cleaning I will look into the PA place.
