HOW is now selling the Ida Sailor Marine Rudder's. Thought to be for only smaller boats is WRONG. I had one made for my 28.5 and I must tell you it is a work of art. I went for a little different shape then the stock OEM and after doing some research looking at a lot of rudder's I believe I made the right call and went with a faster shape. Yes PHRF got me for it. Joel at Ida Sailor Marine has been nothing but the best. We had a problem with the 1st one he made and he jumped right on it and made a second one and had it to me with in a few days. He is getting new designs from the boats all the time and may have your's. They come with a life time warrenty and look to be fast right out of the box. His customer service has been the best. Also was quite a bit cheaper then replacing the rudder from the same company that made the orginal. Cliff Ruckstuhl H 28.5 "Red Dog"

Trouble?

HOW much effort to drop old rudder out? Access to area where rudder connects to steering quadrant (sp?) is tight at best. Any stuffing material on rudder shaft, and or bushings/bearings to deal with? Boat on the hard I guess? Wow, solid poly with no foam core sounds great!!!

Not to bad

It was not all that tough of a job. Yes it is a tight spot to reach. But I had removed my water heater which made it easier. I did it on the hard and we had to jack the aft end of the boat up and block it so we had enough clearence. Boat is in cradel. We are doing a small design change with the current one that is installed and I will need to change out the rudder while the boat is in the water in a month or so. I will forward how that comes out. To remove the rudder was not really all that tough. Ther are what they call bushings which are just donut pieces of plastic. They are used as spacers and is what the weight of the rudder rest on. To remove the quardrent was just nuts and bolts. I also needed to undo one of the stearing cables, again just nuts and bolts and then lift it up and off. When we installed the new rudder I heavly greased the rudder shaft and this has made turning the rudder so smooth I am hoping this will translate to a better feel when driving. I will soon post how the boat sail's with this new rudder. I am loking forward to it and we have a race coming up and I should be able to get a good judge of how well the boat is sailing. New rudder

I replaced my H26 rudder about two weeks ago with the rudder from Idasailor, what a difference it makes. My boat sails and motors like my old 7.9 S2 (not as fast) Of all the things I have ever purchased for a sailboat, this rudder really performs. Phil on HOW was very helpful also. Ken
