I am about to upgrade the old Signet instruments on my 85 H-31. Unfortunately, nothing is ever easy! In looking at the new transducers (depth and speed), they appear to be about 1.5" taller than the old Signet ones, which means I will likely not have enough room under the existing grating.

My transducers are located under the grates just inside (speed) and just outside (depth) the head. Has anyone dealt with a similar problem; and if so, how did you solve it?

Cutting a hole in the grate and allowing the transducer to protrude is the simplest but least elegant solution. Raising all the floorboards is the most expensive option! I'm hoping for something in between...

Thanks,

- Richard

Have you contacted Mike with Signet Marine in Redondo Beach, CA at (310) 320-4349? Last year they rebuilt 29 year old depth and knotmeters on another boat of mine for $80 each. They are as good as new.

Found It

Thanks for the responses. I did do a little more research and found that Raymarine has a "shorty" version of both transducers. Unfortunately, because I bought the instrument package as a "bundle", I can't just return the transducers for a swap out...

Called both Raymarine and the dealer...no dice.

Well, nothing a couple of hundred bucks can't fix! I'll try to sell the standard transducers on EBAY.
