new prop for outboard

I have a Precision 23 with a small Nissan 6HP on the back. I'm wondering about throwing a larger prop on the engine to increase thrust. I think Yamaha puts a larger prop on the exact same engine (the 6 hp engine is the same as their 8, just a different prop). Has anyone ever tried this and if so does it help?

Outboard prop

You probably need a "power" prop vs the "speed" prop that comes standard with the engine. A speed prop when used on a sailboat, will not let the engine reach a high enough RPM to make adequate power. Most Yamaha's have the prop info on the back of the prop. It will be like 8x6-B. The number after the x is the pitch. Find a prop with the smallest pitch available to get the best power.
