We are in the process of buying a 1975 H30 (she is a fixer-upper). We have leaky portlights and would like to modernize buy installing new ones. Any hints or suggestions on where and who carries replacements. And if it is neccessary to modify the openings will it weaken the cabin roof?

Am doing the very thing right now.

I am replacing all of the ports and deadlights on my 1975 30, Hull 33. (Great Minds Think Alike). I wanted more ventilation in the main cabin so I also am replacing the deadlights there. Originally I was going to Bomar opening Ports in the main cabin. Note: Bomar calls these special order so returns will cost 20% of the price. My wife and I changed our minds and are going with bronze ports from New Found Metals. 4 5X12's including the replacement of the wet locker deadlight and 6 6X20's (3 on a side) in the main cabin. The final caution: 1975 Hunter are only 3/8 inch thick at the windows (no sandwich) and will require a beauty ring or shim to allow the bronze ports to clamp properly. BTW, The Bomar Ports were beautiful, but we liked the look of the bronze for us and we have a good fiberglass guy to help. When done, we will include pictures. Bill Boyke

Regarding Strength

I don't see a problem with loss of strength, at least not with the 3 bronze ports. I am actually adding strength by changing the window segments from 2 to 3 as long as the glass work is good. If you want to commiserate my Email is wboyke@ford.com Bill Boyke
