I installed a new pedestal guard this weekend an Edson 45" with the 45 plate it fit perfect right up until I tried to put the boat into forward and the lever hit the new guard atthe end of it's travel. Does anybody have a solution?

I bet, I just bet

Frank: I bet that you put the plate in the wrong place. I think that it need to be in the position just on top of the actual pedestal then the compass housing sits on top of that. Just had a friend that did the same thing.

Under the compass

The plate sits on top of the shift portion and under the compass bowl. I'll try putting it under the shift ring. Steve, Thanks for your input Frank

Reset gear shift

I had a similar problem with my YS pedestal and was able to reset the gear lever under the compass so that now reverse is about 60 degrees further back, as are neutral and forward.

solution from edson customer service

You will need to adjust the location of the cable housing clamp at the engine. Set the shift handle in a position about 3/4" away from the guard. Use a block of wood and tape the handle to keep it in this position. This is where you would like full forward to be. Now go the the cable clamp at the engine. There are usually two or three mounting positions on the brackets. Adjust the cable so that you are fully engaging forward gear. Remove the tape and check that you are fully engaging reverse as well. You may have to repeat the procedure on the throttle as well to ensure that you are getting full throttle. Ed.
