Hello everyone. Just brought home our "new" 1986 H23 this past Saturday. It is in decent shape overall although we will be dealing with mildew on/in the cushions and wood in the cabin. Has anyone had success in cleaning the cushion covers and foam inserts? The archives address replacement, but not really cleaning ideas. Would they stand up to a washing wachine? Wanted to express thanks to Toledo Beach Yacht Sales and to Shawn Taylor in particular for brokering this sale on a consigned boat. They were doing a favor for a friend and gave us first class service. Check them out for new Hunters if you are in the market. We will be docked at Mentor Lagoons, 20 miles east of Cleveland on Lake Erie and hope to attend the Nationals at Indian Lake this summer. Thanks in advance for help with the many newbie questions we're sure to have. Regards, Mike & Julie Misko

Cleaning Cushions

Hi, Glad to hear you got a h23 and are happy with it all. We have the same year and we love it. We cleaned our cushions after we got it by washing the covers and then cleaning the foam with a carpet machine and just used the atatchment for cleaning furniture. As for the wood depending on if there is discoloration or not just cleanit with teak cleaner and then oil it or refinish it. If its discolored you may have to bleach it out and there are some articles in the archives about this. I'm sure you will have a great time with your boat. They are really nice for what they were designed to do. Rob Morton S/V Euphoria

welcome

Welcome, Mike to the H23 world! Never washed mine. They were a bit worn and torn so I replaced them but I'm sure you could wash them cold and drip dry. Glad to hear you are planning on a trip to Indian Lake this summer! You are welcome to contact me personally. Look me up in the owner directory.

cleaning cushions

I think ours say to dry clean only , I have talked with people who have washed theirs in a machine and then immmediately put them back on the foam so they cant shrink . I have used a carpet type cleaner on ours and although it is not what is recommened we had good luck , congrats on tne new boat , Mike

Carpet Cleaner

I, too, have cleaned my cushions with the upolstery attachement for a carpet cleaner. It seemed to work pretty well.

Just leave them as dry as possible

The most important thing to remember when cleaning uphostery or carpet is to not over wet it, and leave it as dry as possible. Use fans to speed up the drying as well, and NEVER put them in the dryer. Before you use any cleaning solution, pretest it by leaving a small sample in a saucer and letting it dry overnight. If it's sticky in the saucer it will be sticky on whatever you are cleaning. Rember this, when it comes to cleaning solutions, more is NOT better!! I've been in the cleaning business for 22 years and see plenty of problems caused by people over doing it, but rarely if ever seen a problem that was made worse by someone not doing enough. And I also agreee with you about the people at Toledo Beach Yacht Sales. I've purchased 2 boats and sold one through Chuck Hutchins. VERY knowledgable and friendly!!!
