New owner

I just recently acquired a 1977 Catalina C-27 and need to know what the inboard diesel engine was used for this model. I am looking for parts for a rebuild due to a locked motor.... not sure of the condition of the trans but an looking to rebuild both as well as replace the packing seals. any help for this new owner is helpful. Tanks in advanced.

You are going to need to look to see what engine that you have. I am not even sure that Catalina offered a diesel in 1977. If they did, it could be a Universal 5411. They mostly used the Atomic gas engine back then. You are asking on a 30 year old boat that could be on its second or third engine replacement!!!Jeff1988 C-27 #6568Phoenix, AZ

Got it out.

I found out it is a Lister-Petter AC1W 6hp engine that has been bored 20 over. I now have to bore an additional 10 over to get it cleaned up. I think I found a place for parts in Miami. Now to find a head rebuild kit for the john.

Glad to hear you found the model type. 6 HP might be a little underpowered if you cruise longer than one day in less than ideal conditions, but the rebuild I'm pretty sure is a more economical option.I'd be very interested to know where you found replacement parts so I can pass along the info to other Petter diesel owners.
