Hi all, I will try this again. I have become the owner of a beneteau 285:D, after sailing an Oday 25 for a number of years, and I have a few questions. The first of which is, where is the drain valve for the water tank, I followed the hose and lost it under the floor of the head. I went out for my first sail and in the middle of lake champlain found water on the floor of the cabin:eek:,(a little scary on the first sail) but quicklly realised it was water from the tank. My next question(and I realise it is probably posted somwhere) is the tension for the standing rigging. If someone can help me with this it would be much appreciated

Greetings, and welcome! I can go over what I have on my 285 wrt the fresh water system... I am not aware of any drain for the fresh water tank. Your fresh water supply line probably goes aft beneath the shower pan in the head and then loops back to the fresh water pump located inside the sink cabinet in the head... Probably on the rear bulkhead inside that cabinet. My water tank leaks, when it's too full, around the large plastic cap on the tank. I removed the cap and cleaned then reseated the large o-ring for the cap and that may help some. I may try to find another o-ring made of something softer (hoping for a better seal), otherwise I just try to not overfill the fresh water... Beneteau in SC may be able to provide specs on rigging.

thanks for the reply. I think you are probably right on the location and I will check the next time I'm on the boat. In out neck of the woods, all fluids have to be drained or have antifreeze added to get through the winter. PS, thanks for the other information. TDC

Lesson I learned was never, ever over-fill a Beneteau water tank unless you want a free interior deck wash! When I fill my water tanks I open the inspection cap and check to make sure its not quite full. PITA to do but better than mopping up a cabin sole and drying out wet carpeting.
