Hello everyone, second post.
About a month ago, I picked up a 1977 Chrysler c22 sandpiper. The PO had kept it in a barn since 2019 and pulled it out last fall. He stated that the boat had been kept indoors for 12 years before I got it and I believe it.
The PO had repainted the boat from the toe rails down with a quality paint a year before storing. The brown spot he said is from a dock rub and it looks like it. She came with a 6hp Johnson, I pulled the impeller and the blades went back straight and showed zero signs of wear. It looks like he had it serviced at the end of his last year and stored it ever since. He kept the sails in his finished basement and the motor appears like it too. Motor started with just a few pulls and runs through the whole rpm range well in a barrel.
He had sealed every opening with steel wool and taped the companionway shut. I was there when it was unsealed. The smell of moth balls is still faint. I think one or two cushions are missing, but the others don't show any stains or wear. The cassette toilet looks like it hasn't been used.
The standing rigging looks like all new cables and the running rigging looks like it should last at least this year without issue. She came with 3 sails (main, and I think a jib and a Genoa). I believe the sails tobe original, they appear almost new and are still stiff like a heavy starched shirt.
The Chrysler trailer is all original except the led lights and tires which were too old to make the trip home, so I threw tires from my flatbed trailer on her. Other than faded paint and the winch is getting replaced, I don't think I will have much work there.
I have been around power boats and a couple times with jet skis growing up, but have zero experience sailing. Hopefully the mast will go up for the first time this weekend and I will have her on the lake in the next couple of weeks.
Here are a couple of pics taken as I found her. Cheers.
