New owner of 1975 27

Hi,
We are the new owners of a 75 h27. We are moving up from a H22. It appears that the floor stringers have been addressed, as there seems to be a large area of the sole that had been cut away and replaced at some time. I so not see any "depression in the cabin top from any compression post issues. What are the typical issues that I should seriously look at? I feel we did well on the purchase (2K). So putting a bit of work into it is not a concern.

Either obvious, or moisture

We sailed Lady Lillie for a summer, and then began with fixes and upgrades. The h27 is a pretty simple, straightforward boat. Using it will show you what you need to work on. The one exception is the water penetration that afflicts all boats of her age. The one common moisture issue you did not mention is the life line stanchion bases. The engine could have issues, but using it is a good way to find them.

In 9 years, we have:
- fixed the fuel supply line (year 1)
- bought new sails (main, 110, and asymetric spinnaker.) (years 1 & 2)
- fixed our road ding in the keel (2)
- replaced the cockpit drain hoses (2)
- replaced a leaking forward hatch. (year 3)
- repaired the mast step (year 3)
- led halyards aft for single handing, and put a grab handle in the cabin (4)
- bought a bimini, (4) and then a sunshade to go over the boom (6)
- reset two ports (7)
- replaced the engine (8)
plus lots of little fixes and upgrades.

I have a '75. Have sailed on the boat since new.
Replaced the eye bolts for the mast stays.
Replaced the motor mounts - issue with picking up a line on the prop lol
Put in a set of cabinets on the port side. Still room to sleep one. Now a nice back rest.
Replaced the through hull valves.
New mast head anchor light
Replaced galley water pump with a foot pump
Removed the alcohol stove and converted the space to a nice storage compt.
Opened the bottom of the food compartment to drain into the bilge
Nice stereo system
Engineered a new power panel with meters and breakers.
Installed a good battery charger.
Installed an 110 V. power line for dock power with lights etc.
I have more fun working on the boat than sailing it. Good place to lie back have a beer and play tunes.

2K, ouch that hurts.
You might check the keel to hull joint if the boats on the hard, its a little different in the earlier years in that the keel isn't faired, but has a keel flange and putty or caulk that became brittle that with little effort with a screwdriver came right out. I recaulked with 5200 - it took about two tubes to my suprise. This is the shoal draft keel. I had to cut out my sole reinforce the less than stellar job Hunter had done fiberglassing the in the stringers. The previous owner did a good job rewiring the boat, and paneled the interior with 1/2" pine beadboard, with some insulation behind it. Basicly, after 30 years just about everything needs some attention, but it a nice boat & worth the effort
