Hey fellow Pearson owners I have recently purchased a P30 in pretty bad shape. My main questions were about a replacement for the Atomic 4 and were I can find a mast for the boat. I do have what's left of the boom but any suggestions would be much appreciated. This is a long project but I have fallen in love the boat so please if you have any suggestions that will be great.

Bad news

Sorry Dan but I have some bad news. A replacement powerplant and new rigging will probably cost as much as buying a P30 in decent condition. Other unknown repairs will likely put you over the top even if the boat were given to you. The nicest P30s sell around here for 15-20k. D&R will have rigging http://www.drmarine.com/ Moyer marine can get you a new A4 http://www.moyermarine.com Universal and some other make A4 diesel replacements. Kubota, Yanmar. Pricey though. Good luck with your new adventure. Tim R.

Do you still have the old A4?

Are you sure it's beyond rebuilding? They are pretty simple rugged engines and will keep chugging even in poor condition. You may be able to find a bargain mast off a scrapped boat, but I have no idea where you would begin to look (other than the Gulf of Mexico area).

Well maybe...

I just put a new stick and standing rigging on my P30 a couple of years ago. My mast got dropped and got a small kink at the spreader. I didn't want them to splice it so I made them get me a new mast but I bet you could get that bent one and get it fixed pretty cheap. Probably would ship cheaper if cut in half too! I've still got all my old standing rigging. It all looks fine, I'm just fussy.

Last time I saw that mast

Last time I saw that stick it was at Royal River Boat Yard in Yarmouth Maine. Try calling them, it's not that huge a place, someone will know what you're talking about.

p30mast

I knwo where there is a pretty cheap 30 that you can use for parts if it is still for sale. Also its probably better to hang an outboard off the transom to repower that 30 of yours. It will be a lot cheaper.the boat is located south of boston, mass. etgrogan@comcast.net
