We bought our first ever sailboat (Hunter 46) last month, and have a lot of work to do to get her ready to launch in Nov/Dec. Upgrades and repairs are in the works, and there are many items we are taking car of ourselves.
A couple of questions
Is there any information or direction for locating used replacement parts (Transom shower cover, anchor locker cover - poorly repaired hinges/fiberglass)?
Has any ever changed the inner "storm" jib on a Hunter to a furling inner jib? Or, does anyone have any thoughts or information about this potential upgrade? I thought that I have seen pics of Hunter 46/466's with the "cutter" configuration, but can't seem to locate any info.

Thanks
Dave

Dave, welcome and congratulations. May you always be dealing with those small things. :)
One of the first things I learned is that your local hardware store may be probably your best "marine" store.
Close second are RV places.

A rigger can modify the inner forestay to roller furling. There are two on my dock. Congratulations and enjoy the 41!

Hunter purchases the Transom shower fixtures so look and see if you can identify the manufacturer. The same with hinges and hardware. The anchor locker lid is a different story, either repair the one you have or try to find one at a salvage yard.

Most any parts to match OEM can be obtained right here in the SBO store. If they don’t have it they can often get it for you.

DE, Welcome and congratulations on your Hunter 46. What year? Photos of your issues would be helpful of what you want to fix.

1. Transom cover: as already suggested see if there is a manufacturer name on it. Take a photo, measure it and go shopping on the internet for a replacement. That is what I have done for replacement parts on my new to me 2005 Hunter 46. I just lef my boat so I do not have any information on it to help you. Also check this site for one at https://shop.hunterowners.com/hp/part.php?m=460-466&c=10&p=55052. Cover cost is $13.95.
2. Anchor locker cover: a fiberglass shop can repair existing cover or fabricate a new cover and a good fiberglass guy can repair the associated hinges/fiberglass.
3. Cutter rigged sail: as already suggested, a rigger can resolve this.

Great information guys! Will start searching for the shower control cover today. I was hoping someone out there converted to a cutter rig and could give some insights. And, Stu, unfortunately there are bigger issues to take care of too. Thanks All!!

You already have the inner forestay, right? The conversion is as simple as adding roller-furling hardware and an extra set of jib cars.

Rick D, our rigger is contemplating adding it at this time. I think that we need to replace the dodger/deck frame as it is pretty cracked up, so that should aid him in getting more clearance to run the sheets to cockpit through new cars.
**SFbay, we are going through the survey list, and it is a lot of this and that, some us, some boat yard.
**It is one of the three Helsen Signature 470's in 2001, and has never had a traveler, so we are having that also configured while having it re-rigged. It looks like the propeller shaft spar has some corrosion/pitting (electrolysis neglect at some point), so deciding what to do there. Both mixing elbows and exhaust lines in need of replacement. The gen/set elbow had a leak that sprayed onto the rear shield and has caused some rust. So not looking forward to spending time cleaning and painting that. Some damage to the front of port side fin (light grounding at some point?), and trying to decide if I want to go to the expense of correcting that before bottom painting.
**Looks like the old anchor chain (boat not used for two years) did not get proper drainage (a mess), so need to configure the anchor locker for better drainage. Locker cover hinges have been "fixed", and needs some attention, thinking of trying to find a replacement. Great anchor, upgrading to G4, three year old West Marine dingy and ten year old Mercury (heavy not running) outboard, so think we have settled on a Highfield aluminum and a Tohatsu 9.8 EFI (light)
**The previous owner had a davit system installed, in aluminum, and it flexes a great deal. Having the yard design it to solidify the transom connections, and then connect the port and starboard sides to the stainless arch, for more stability. The spectra water maker has not been used for many years, so a little concerned about the demons that it my have lurking.
Lots more of this and that....???....what do we do with the port side rear cabin to give efficient storage, upgrade the wind generator from West Marine to a D400.....do we stick with the 110V fridge/freezer or have it changed to dc units next year (will the Magnum 2800W inverter allow to run off batteries, we'll see), and some other thoughts we may have to put off.
Thanks All!! Spent some time looking at the other site options. wish I would have joined a long time ago!

Wow...thats a list!!
1. I had a list but not nearly as long or involved.
2. I will check out my anchor locker, rode and chain next time I go to the boat this weekend. Thanks for the nudge!!
2. I installed a Garhauer stainless dinghy davits on my previous Hunter 386 and connected port and starboard to the stainless arch vs. extra supports attached to the lazzaretes.
3. Since the boat has 200 gallons may not need the water maker in play until you decide to do a long passage.
4. Recommend a dc fridge/freezer. My Sprindrift motor yacht came with a full size house fridge/freezer and we found it impractical to operate it while underway or at anchor without the genset on.

Ah, that 47 is a special boat; worth the fuss. Have fun!
