I'm about to buy a new engine... 6HP Tohatsu long shaft four stroke for use on the intracoastal in Florida. Everyone think that is adequate for a H 22. No tide to contend with just occasional strong winds. One more thing..has anyone seen plans or built a caddy for hauling an outbourd around? Thanks for any comments and advice. Jim

I think you'll like it

I like tohatsu and I've seen 22 foot boats with the 4 5 and 6 Hp models and all have worked well. at the low end they are the same engine I think the carb jets are the only difference. I've seen all sorts of brackets on boats but no plans. If you trailer has a boarding ladder in the front you could attach a brack to that. Or you could attach a lock box for it to the front of the trailer. Most folks I see only take it off for trips over 75 miles but It does balance the rig and stress the boat less to take it off.

Ouboard Caddy

Jim, I found a caddy for my 8hp, 4stroke at a garage sale. Works great. Will try to take a picture and post it. There is no label from a manufacturer on it. May take a while I will be out of town for a few weeks. How is sailing in the Melbourne area? Always seems to be a nice breeze blowing when on vacation in that area. I would imagine there is a lot of shallow water though. Is dockage very expensive? Hope to be on the Indian River in 3.5 years in the Melbourne/Sebastian/Vero area. our secret don't tell

Now don't tell anyone, but its perfect if you can get by with 2.5 feet or so. Most is 4 to 6 ' Always a breeze in the afternoon, but land values are soaring..38% in two years. Its just a matter of knowing where the sand bars are..youl find them one way or the other. I'm in Melbourne Beach and I have my 22 in a nice slip for $4.00/ft Average is maybe $6 or $7 Just got to know where to look. Email if you get down this way. Jim

An outboard motor carrier?

Are you looking for an outboard motor carrier? You can buy them or build your own. Outboard motor carriers are just modified hand trucks, which are designed to carry the load higher up then a regular hand truck. You can buy them online for less than $60 for outboard motors less than 15 hp and 85 lb. Cabelas outdoor store sells them and Boaters World sells ones made by Garelick. If you want to build one, you don’t really need a detail plan if you have the tools. Check the link for a wooden outboard motor carrier.
