new outboard

I have a 1976 Catalina with a 9.9 evenruth short shaft that I just don't trust anymore. I live in Calif. and NEW 2 strokes are outlawed. my boat has that damned hole in the stern that has already been modified, cute to the max. I'm looking for a New motor with charging and the old system gear shiftier ( that works on my remote shiftier/gas ,and fits in that hole on the transom. I'm sure others have had this problem, so a little help please.

What year is the motor? Does it have a lot of hours on it? Why don't you trust it?

What the hell is an Evenruth? So, take some measurements and go to your local outboard dealer and see what fits. Nissan or Tohatsu are the lightest of all 4-strokes (and sailors like light). See if they work.
