I am looking for tips on how to restore the wood veneer panelling inside the cabin. Has anyone done this? Thin veneer is thin and has dried and a bit warped. Thinking of light sanding and adding a bit of wood stain. But maybe I should use an oil, like linseed?

Welcome aboard.

Veneers are very thin and sanding it may take you right through it! The best thing to do is to remove it down to the substrate and then glue on more. Is it teak or some other wood?

Here are some videos on removing veneers and some on installing veneer.

Installing new veneer takes some finesse to make sure you don't cause issues down the road.

Another option for you is to replace the veneer and substrate with a new piece of plywood of the wood species of your choosing. It costs a little more but you get to your end results much faster.

By the way, can you post pics of the areas you're wanting to restore?

Something to consider is using formica (Teak) to cover some of those areas. We had a table in the salon that was beat up and stained. I went to a local top shop and had it recovered with this Formica (type) product. It looks better than it ever has.

Any chance of a before and after pic Steve?

I did little experimentation and I've settled on this process:

A very gentle sanding with 400 grit sandpaper
A wipe over with a soft cloth and mineral spirits
Apply a generous amount of tung oil finish
After a couple of hours, rub out the tung oil
Repeat for 2nd coat tung oil finish

I did a test area and I'm encouraged. I don't know how to post the before & after. I took a pic of my test area and will post if I figure out how. Thanks for all the ideas; I learned about this process following your you tube links.
