We just recently moved from the Southern California and sold our boat before moving, we are currently thinking of purchasing a boat in the bay area, any sailors have any experience here? we know the winds and currents are stronger of course, but it there a calm time of the day to get out and get used to it, any place in the bay that you would suggest as a first time sail? the boat we are interested is currently in the south beach area. thank you.

Nice Places to Sail on SF Bay

Roger Sure. Just stay south of the Bay Bridge, you know, the big gray thing right outside your harbor! The winds south of the bridge are much more delightful to sail until you get used to the 30 kts in the main bay. Also, this time of year is just great. The summer winds will be dying out, and Sept and Oct are just wonderful times to sail all over the bay. Good luck.

Interested in a well equipped C30? I am selling mine since I just bought a C36. She will be listed with a brokerage in Alameda next week. You can contact me at cg2chris@pacbell.net. And Stu is right. I LOVE Sept/Oct?Nov on the bay. Nice warm weather, milder winds, less chop. I was out in 40 kts and what must have been 6' chop two weeks ago. That kind of stuff pretty much goes away in late summer and fall. Chris
