New Old LectraSan

On Saturday, I participated in the madness of the Boat Accessory Market, a nautical consignment market held twice a year in Annapolis. I bought a new Lectrasan model 12 VDC, still in the box.....judging from its exterior and printing date on the owner's manual, the unit was manufactured in the late '70's or early '80's. I wasn't sure what I was getting into, but the thing was priced at $225, so I couldn't stop myself from buying it. Have I just wasted my money or is this unit legal? If its not, what can be done to update/upgrade it? How do the older models differ from those on the market today? Thanks for your advice. Keith

It's legal on the Bay...

...except in "no discharge" harbors and marinas, so don't throw out your holding tank....just plumb it to give you a choice of going through the Lectra/San or to the tank if you need to. The only changes/upgrades of any real consequence are the controls. If it's old enough to have a wind-up dial control, you'll have to upgrade it because Raritan has discontinued it...but the good news is, through the end of this year you can upgrade to the state of the art MC controller for half price. I'd give Raritan a call to see what else might be a good idea to do it after sitting around for all these years...but you didn't waste your money...you got a real bargain.

Thanks Peggie. The boating community is really lucky to have you as a resource. I'm sure you know this, but your sage advice is very much appreciated. Cheers, Keith
