It is a great motor, and people are using them in salt water and rincing them off with fresh water. I am doing mostly lake sailing, and I might pick one up. I have a 9.9, but that is more motor than I need for the boat. It is a lawn mower engine in a prop. What can go wrong??????
There has to be something. Is it laod? B&G said it was not that laod, and was used in salt water, but rinced in fresh water to curb corrosion. I am going to use it in fresh mostly, but I am now concerned with the noise. Tell me more...........
I have a venture 24 and the B&S works well on it . It is no louder than my Old clinton but probably louder than a new Nissan or Tohatsu . It does have a standard muffler which makes it sound like a lawn mower does . You can get a quieter muffler for your lawn mower so you should be able to get one for the outboard . I will look into that as well but since i usually just run it slightly above idle it is not a problem . I sail on a lake and it gets me around at about 5 knots easily . Runs forever on a gallon of gas as well . I love it and would endorse it !
