Hi folks,
I have owned my Albin for over 5 years, and, unfortunately, sailed her
once.
she needs a new owner, who would use her enough to keep her in shape. I
would like to sell her.

My Vega, "Lady, Be" has been sitting securely in Key West Harbour for
over 5 years. She is dependably there, with no damage from months of
being left alone, through hurricane season. The hull is very sound, with
all new Awl-Grip in 2002. The Standing rigging is sound. The running
rigging needs a cleat and a winch reworked. The interior needs a bit of
work. All in all, a great boat. She comes with some sails as well. She is
set up for live-aboard. No engine, no electronics.
I have no recent photos of the interior of the boat. The set up is the
original configuration. There is a vee-berth, big enough for 2, and 2
cabin berths. There is a swivel table. It required the lags reinstalled,
there is a space for the head, none installed. I used a portapotti. There
is a large fresh water tank, and it is plumbed to the sink in the galley,
there is a sink there, it doesn't fit though. There is room for a stove
and icebox.
Some of the interior panels have de laminated. The boat was on shore, and
water got in, it wasn't a leak. That was before my time.
Recently, I closed it up for the season in April. When I returned to her
in January, she wasn't moldy or wet. There was some water in the bilge
though. Probably came in from the cockpit. I did not screw down the sole
of the cockpit after the yard work.
I do cushion work, and when I first got the boat I made new cushions for
the vee berth, and starboard berth. There are other cushions, which
together fit the cockpit, so I slept in the king size bed in the cockpit,
under the stars.
If you know of anyone who might be interested in buying her, please
contact me at bjblackmore@...
Thank you,
Barbara

Hi Barbara,
I had my Vega in the Key West city marina for over ten years, and left in 2002. The only other Vega in the area that I recall belonged to a live aboard that was known as "Rat Key" Dave or was it Bob, I don't recall, but Rat Key ... something for sure. I tried to buy his ice box (orig. Vega), but he wouldn't sell. He was anchored off Rat Key by Fleming Key, could this be the same boat? Just wondering.

I would recommend the latter option. Spend a season or two sailing before
you make big changes!

That said, self steering has been on my list for 7 years now...

Hi .The first thing I noticed was under power the boat wandered off, being used to steady long keelers I was immediately thinking of some gadget,I now have some bits of surgical tubing and a grommwt round the tiller which works just fine under power.

I have installed a solar panel and love it.
I also have just put in the mounting for an electric tiller pilot.
I am wondering if the solar panel can keep up with the needs of the tiller pilot on a long time basis? Is the electric tiller pilot a viable alternative to wind steering?

I have installed a 15W on a standalone battery with a regulator which powers my Standard Horizon 180 chart plotter and my TP10 tiller pilot. I leave the solar panal in the cockpit on the mooring and tuck it away in the port lazaret when day sailing. It has worked out great so far. i was going to hard mount the panal but this arrangment works fine. I will take some photos of the set up next time I row out to the boat. cheers John 44 32' 02.24"N 63 47' 44.64"W

I was delighted to inherit a massive solar panel with Beowulf. It is not fixed and we stow it in the forepeak when we are sailing, possibly because I am scared of losing it. Rest of the time it hangs from the guard wires beside the cockpit, or leans against the pushpit sitting above the lazarette. It keeps the batteries topped up throughout the winter and when we are not sailing for long periods. When the alternator belt broke on day 2 of crossing Biscay and we were becalmed and had to start the motor, and use tricolor and compass light at night, the solar panel ensured the batteries were recharged enough to start the engine again when we reached the Spanish coast.

Well, today me and carlo my friend went across
the bay to kent narrows. We are having a beer
there now. I must say having a tiller pilot makes
sailing ten times more fun.

And you don't need to buy beer for the TP!

I have a Simrad TP10. A great piece of kit.

Yes we did not feed the tiller pilot beer. But
the tiller pilots share was missing this morning
and carlo is still snoozing on the boat at noon.
