New member introduction

Hello all,
Just wanted to introduce myself as the new owner of Vega #1390... I
live in New Hampshire, about 1/2 hour south of Chris. I'm a former
merchant mariner who spent about 10 years in large sailing ships prior
to changing over to tugs and tankers, and still maintain my Masters
license. I've also cruised fairly extensively and enjoy refitting
older classic sailboats. Previous boats have included two Alberg 30s,
a Contessa 26 and a Voyager 26 double-ender, as well as a 37' trimaran
that our family used to live aboard. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to
getting to know the Vega and was very pleased to find such an active
community of Vega owners here!
Regards,
Bill Burke

Hi Bill and Welcome!

Where are you in New Hampshire??? I am so excited to have another Vega owner nearby!

We are in North Conway, and keep our Vega up at Falmouth Foreside, ME. We love the Vega and are sure you will too! I looked at two Contessas before moving on the Vega. Had a Contessa sold out from under me...a long story, but it has a happy ending....

Glad to have you aboard Bill

Hey Bill,

Your name is very familiar. Have we written before or met? Did you have a boat for sale in Portsmouth or that area?

Chris

Chris, I'm just down in Moultonborough - and I climb too! We'll have
to get together sometime to climb a few pitches of ice and talk Vegas!

Hi Bill,

Welcome to the group! I live in Maine and Chris and I have been discussing
trying to arrange a Maine rendezvous next summer. Where will you be keeping
your Vega? Do you also cross country ski? We sometimes go to Jackson, NH
for a weekend of skiing--we hope to meet up with Chris if we do that this
winter.
PS We sail in the Penobscot Bay region.

Smooth Sailing,
Melanie & Paul Halvachs

Hi Melanie & Paul,
A Maine rendezvous sounds like a great idea! I'll probably be spending most of my time down east, but depending on how spring projects go I may venture a bit further afield... Let me know if you do get over to Jackson, as it'd be fun to connect or possibly even ski together. My daughter (15) races nordic and would always be up for a day trip up to Jackson!
Regards,
Bill

Let's make it happen! The ice is building nicely, already there have been ascents of the Black dike, Standard Route, O'dell's, Pinnacle, Open Book, and a ton of stuff at Willoughby. I would be curious how Hitchcock Gully and the East Face Slabs are taking shape?!?!?

Let's keep in touch!
