It's time to replace the aft cabin mattress in our 376. I'm looking for suggestions and expereinces with different vendors and types (just foam or inner-spring).

Original Matress Factory
Phil, I got mine at the Original Matress Factory (Mike Newcomb - 770-612-8117). They have made a few for the 376 and have the exact pattern. It is a major improvement over the original cushions. The cost was $500 with shipping. You can check mine out at the harbor.

I cut my own - very easy
I replaced the factory original with some stiffer foam. I used the original foam pieces as a pattern and cut the new foam with an electric carving knife. I did all 3 pieces for the aft cabin in my 40.5 in an evening. It was a vast improvement. The link to the company that I bought the foam is attached. Without searching my receipts, I seem to recall that the cost was in the $200-250 range. Their products carry a 15 year warrantee also. They have samples to send you so you can pick the right density for you. Rich

I had to replace my rear berth cushion because of an exhaust leak which stunk it up. Since the berth is enclosed on the 28.5, I went to a custom mattress place and they provided, cut and upholstered the mattress for $280. It is all done by the square foot. It consisted of two cushions. The covering is a typical quiilted mattress material blue in color.. I will warn you that they used outside seams just like on a mattress. It is a mattress so I it did not matter to me that it does not match the other cushions. I used a foam which had a 3 year guarantee but they had a 10 year foam which was denser. I don't use that berth much. I can now advertise that the boat has a custom made mattress when I move on to my Hinckley.

Latex Rubber is the way to go!
Phil: If you can find the way to spend the money, go with latex rubber. This is not foam. I have friends that have had latex mattresses in their homes for 25 years. They stay cool in the summer too. Never heard anything but good about them. Laid on one at the boat shows and almost wanted to go to sleep. Be prepared for sticker shock.

As good as a home mattress
We replaced the aft cabin mattress on a Hunter 336 with a 7" spring matress from Palmer Bedding, http://www.boatmattress.com. It has a hinge that allows access to the filters and stuffing box. It's as good as my bed at home and is worth every penny for a good nights sleep. The owner knew all about where to place the hinge and provided references to call. Most people we asked advised against any mattress less than 6" thick. They are right.

Handcraft is great!
Phil, I replaced the cushions if you could call them that on my 380 and have been very impressed with everything about the Handcraft mattress we got custom made, except for the price of course. It's one of those things that really is worth it if you spend alot of time sleeping on your boat like I do. A rep came to the boat and measured it over and over, showed samples of innerspring types and latex foam types. We chose a 6" latex foam mattress with a custom offset hinge to allow access esaily to storage underneath. Though it was over $1200 ship to Harwichport from Calif. we have never once regretted spending the money. Between the great mattress and the slap silencer we sleep better than we do at home.
