I own a 21 ft 1974 Macgregor. I'm wanting to buy a new mainsail because mine is plum worn out. I sail at a fairly windy lake. From March to November I would say I sail my boat around 15 to 20 times. I dont race at all. I just enjoy to sailing and have all my life. I like durabilty. I want this sail to last a long time. My question is: what wieght of Dacron do you think is right for my type of boat and sailing?

The normal weight for a dacron 109sq. ft. mainsail for your boat would be 6.4oz SuperCruise Contender ..... or better - 6.5oz. High modulus Contender. If you sail a lot without reefing, then 'one step' heavier in weight would be appropriate. Id go with woven dacron over any laminate for an 'all purpose' sail, especially one flown with minimal reefing in the high wind ranges.
Id also suggest triple stitching for durability and also Id suggest a boltrope that's 'easily adjustable' later on (extra boltrope 'stored' at the headboard - minimal cost to adjust if you have 'extra' already built-in).
