We have a 30 Foot Hunter Cherubini design. We ordered a New Main Sail for it. Our measurements were as follows:
Luft: 36' 5"
Leech: 38'
Foot: 10' 9"

We ordered the sail and when we went to put it up it was too long.
We measured the old sail and the luft on it was 35' and even then it had a pocket at the foot.

Has anyone out there had this problem and does anyone have any idea what is wrong.

When I sailed a 1981 Hunter 33, the boom was mounted on a track. After raising the main halyard I would pull a pin to drop the boom. It would slide down the track and take up all the slack in the main. There was a short line like a Cunningham to snug the boom down by the deck. Could you have a similar arrangement?

Hunter 30 came in two configurations, the tall rig with a luff of 37' or the regular rig with a luff of 34'. It seems you may have ordered a sail for a tall rig. When purchasing sails it is best to always take actual measurements of your own boat as there can be differences or PO modifications. I would return the sail and get a proper fitting one.

Most good sailmakers have measurement sheets with instructions as to how to measure your boat for an exact fit. If you buy from a dealer, they usually do it for you to make sure the sail will fit. Measure twice, cut once sort of thing. Sailmakers do not like to have to fix a sail because it doesn't fit, so they usually insist on somehow getting exact measurements. Who's the culprit on this job?

Sailmakers may not like to fix a sail that's cut wrong, but they do it all the time. Measuring for a sail is almost impossible, given the trajectory and scope of the work. They should be sympathetic. It's called customer service. Cheer up and give them a call, without ascribing any blame.
