Hello Everyone,

I just bought my new sailboat, a Macgregor 26d.
I was trying to install the main and jid in my parking lot and I end up not using many of the pulley/block that I have on the deck.
Does anyone could post a picture of how I should lay all the ropes?
Many thanks for your help. If it could be usefull, I could send a picure of the deck.

Looking forward for your help.

Hi Guys, See the pictures attached. There a too many pulley and "rings" that I cannot figure out where should the jib ropes should go.
As well, just where the mast is attached, there are 2 pulleys that I do not know what to use them for.
I have tried to look on Macgregor owner manual but I cannot find any rop diagram.
Many thanks again for your help!

Mac 26S owner here. I think the rigging is essentially identical on the D and S, so I should be able to help you out.

The reason you can't find some of those items in the manual is that they're not stock. Your boat has blocks and clutches added so the halyards can be run aft to the cockpit--a nice feature that I plan to add to my boat! I can't quite see in the photos but there should be two blocks attached right to the mast foot bracket, or immediately adjacent, one to port and one to starboard. The main halyard runs down through the starboard block, then laterally over to the deck block mounted at 45 degrees, on the starboard side, and then back through the clutch near the winch. The orange line in your photos follows the routing that the main halyard should follow. The foresail halyard is mirror image to that on the port side.

For what it's worth, my boat doesn't have those deck fittings so I just cleat off the halyards to the cleats on either side of the mast, near the goose neck where the boom attaches.

I'm not sure I answered your question but I'm happy to provide any more detail I can, if you need it.

Rigging the jib and main sail should be similar to the MacGregor 26D manual attached. Where are you located? I helped a couple in central California rig his MacGregor 26D last weekend and showed them how to utilize available hardware including blocks, cleats, jam cleats, and winches. Hands on assistance goes a long way and after one lesson over a couple of couple of hours you will likely have no problem after that.

Harder to see with the mast down, but you won't use everything all the time. The eyes where you have the white sheets through are for the jib, which should go to the cam cleats and not through the rope clutch. If you use a genoa you'll use the outside blocks on the aluminum track.

Little far to drive and not sure the borders are open. Please post photos of your deck and cockpit hardware and the forum can advise how to rig your lines.

I owned a 88 26D

post a pic looking down when standing over the dagger board.

I think that cheek block on the foreground is to raise and lower the dagger board.
how many sails do you have?

and how is the rudder rigged? adding 1" to the leading edge will do wonders to handling.

Many of us also had problems trailering it due to sway. Make sure you keep heavy things like the motor off the transom while towing.
I fixed ours by moving the axle aft by 11 inches. It made it safe and I even trailered with the motor on. Never an issue.
