"new" Lifesling II Vs "old" Vs. the inflateable?

We have a new boat and it came with a horseshoe and a throw bag rope. I always have another throwable in the cockpit when we sail, but I'd like to add a Lifesling. However, with the two "new" versions out (the Lifesling II and the inflateable) I am have a harder time choosing. Our boat is a Hunter Vision 32, so he have a wide transom with swim step & ladder and since it's an unstayed rig, no shrouds to hold onto at the side of the boat AND the mast is way forward. The transom helps if we need to get a person back onboard, so do we need the 3:1 tackle? Will it work as well on this particular boat? I'm looking for comments to help with the total decision. Thanks!

LS II...

I have a Hunter 260 that has the open transom and integrated swim ladder. I chose the Lifesling II due to its smaller size and velcro attach points. Before dropping the mooring penant, I hang it on the stern rail and attach the end to a stern cleat. It is ready to deploy easily. I store it in the cabin, out of the sun and weather when away from the boat. I have a spare 4:1 Boom Vang that could be attached to the stern rail if I needed to drag an injured person up on deck. Fair winds, Tom

I use LS II on my boat

The differences between the lifeslings one and two include the size difference and some materials differences. The lifesling I has nicer line. The II uses yellow poly line. The I has different fittings at the yoke where the line attaches to the foat. Etc. I dont' think it matters much. I bought the Lifesling II b/c considerably less expensive and essentially the same thing. I don't like the inflatable. While working for the evil chain marine supplier we saw several inflatable lifeslings that had triggered from getting soaked on the rail. I love my inflatable life jackets but shied away from the sling. The lift tackle is up to you. The open transom is usefull but don't underestimate the force even a knot or two of drift will have on whomever you are trying to pull out of the water. On my boat the mainsheet is attached to the travler with an appropriate snap shackle. Pull it from the travler and you have instant crane to attach to whatever's in the water and haul it into the boat. Justin - O'day Owners' Web

Tom & Justin- Thanks for your comments

I think the II version will work just fine for us. Now if it would only go on sale... Tom SF Bay
