Hi all, been busy with a winter project, i did the starboard reno last winter, I am doing port side and built in a drop table on the port bulkhead, almost done with configuration, everything needs cap varnish, still too cold even wf heater. I was able to reconfigure the 2 old table pieces, with new hinges and a few cuts here and there. The location of the old table was smack in the middle of the salon, and pulled up from the bunk, the stationary piece and outboard hanging table were imovable. Lots of black and blues on port hip over the years. Here r some pics so far. First pic is b-4...Red

I'm doing something similar

My winter project is making a new table to replace the particle board one on my Catalina 27. I made a bulkhead 'wine' rack similar to yours last year. I'm making my table out of Catalpa and Maple. Much lighter than the formica covered particle board. I made the wine rack out of sasifras. I'm planning on post pictures one of these days. I am putting bar top clear epoxy on the drop down table.

Please post pictures! I've never heard of building with sasifras or catalpa. I always thought sasifras was just for tea and catalpa was only for growing the best daggum fishin' worms money can't buy.

I don't know if that was such a good idea. That table looks so darn nice, the rest of the boat might get jealous. Nothing more dangerous than a jealous lady....;)

Looks nice. I wish I was that far along with my project. I am still in the design stage of my drop table. I am trying to figure a way to make the leaf easily removable to use it as a cockpit table. We will dine outside 90% of the time anyway. The leaf would just be stored in the aft storage area. The Admiral would also like a mirror on the bottom of the fold up table so it looks nice when against the wall. The wheels are turning..........

IMHO a table that folds up to the bulkhead is the only way to go. nice job.

Gary, the frame of the table is 5/4"x 6" clear mahogany I had left from a deck I built. I used 2 small ss 'L" brackets to hold to the bulkhead, then I used 2.5" ss deck screws and secured it thru the bulkhead from behind. I was able to modify my old pull up table top with some alteration. I attached main table to bottom of frame with 2- 4"ss hinges from Jamestown dist. A piece of piano hinge to attach smaller folding section of table. this folds up against bottom of main table and has a small bolt to hold closed for when up storeage position. I used (2) old turned cedar legs that attach to both tabletops with tableleg hardware avail in Lowes, cheap $2 each. If you look left side I used spring clip holders to hold the legs while table is up. Then fill in the shelving to suit your needs. I had lots of models, when browsing boats for sale I came across lots of different examples, caliber, sabre, lots of them if you are lookin. my frame is about 40" long, and 22" wide. Main top is about same, hinged sideboard is cut smaller to configure around my compression post. I,ll put up a couple of other pics.... Red

port side wainscott b-4 and after.

Here are some of b-4 and after on the port side, wainscott panel. There is no finish yet, when I do the natural stain then the captains varnish, it brings the wainscott to a real nice honey like oak finish. Still too cold for that. You can see in one of the pics on the left corner the line of the wainscott is different color, thats the finished part from last year. If I can get near the boat this sunday,I am going to clean up the vee berth and other new areas and try to get more photos, and thats a big maybe in Peekskill NY. This last storm had freezing rain on top and the snow after is like rock. Plus we may have more on the way.... Red
