hello all.... Installed fuel injectors
in my yanmar 3hm35f.... Started a few times after however this weekend was first time taking her for a ride. All seemed good, but a tad of smoke from exhaust on first day. On trip home this morning didn't notice smoke but smelled a new part type smell. No leaks. Do injectors have a break in period or just good to go.....

Thanks

no break in period but they do have a getting dirty and wearing out period you are the first that i have read that replaced the injectors on here ...nice touch ...most have them rebuilt ....as a matter of fact if you still have the old ones have them rebuilt and keep them for down the road

I like to replace things new especially when they're 30 years old. and yea I'm having them rebuilt and will add to the spare parts box. Yea they were shipped all oiled up. Guess just have to burn it off. Wonder if some of that oil was causing the bit of exhaust smoke?

Thanks!

You new injectors should work perfectly, unless that were installed incorrectly. You might want to re-bleed just in case.

If you are getting smoke (even a little), it might be the exhaust elbow. Mine was plugged which (I believe) caused a hairline crack and also produced a smell around the engine... A misty sort of smoke invisible during the day but quite visible at night using a red flash light around the engine. The engine exhaust also smoked a little and was hard to start.

Bonus: I now get GREAT fuel economy.

For giggles, consider the injector's job; when running a three cyl engine at say 2800 rpm and burning a half gallon of diesel an hour, each poor little injector is having to accurately squirt/atomize around a tenth of a drop (0.15 drop) of diesel at a rate of 23 times a second.. It doesn't take much to affect them.. and ya need to keep surgically clean conditions in handling the little dears!

When I needed injector nozzles for my Universal, Kubota wanted $71 each and I found the same ones on eBay new for $40 each. That's less than rebuilding them. And Torreson wanted over $400 each. If those were the only choice I would rebuild them.

Wow $400 each is crazy...... Yanmars were significant less. Engine appears to be running fine. Exhaust elbow new last fall...... I guess it's the new part smell I smell inside. Each injector was shipped in a bag of oil and just have to burn all that off
