Welcome Aboard Tony

First... Just about everyone who owns a 23 likes the boat. I assume you define 'short stay' as a weekend or long weekend. How you feel about the accomodations depend on your likes and dislikes. If you like tent camping/backpacking... This boat will seem like a luxury hotel. If you like fold-down campers.... This boat will seem familiar. If you like luxury motorhomes and fancy hotels........ You won't want to stay in it often. Now for tips... There is a TON of information in the archives of this site and I would highly recommend reading much of it. If you trailer your boat on each use, pay close attention to some of the mast raising systems detailed in the archives. It will make life easier if you can get it in the water easily and quickly. In the heat of Alabama, you may want to consider a rail or transom mount BBQ grill for cooking some meals. It gets pretty hot in there. I found a 12 volt fan made a big difference when going to bed at night. We just keep it on for an hour or so just to cool things off. My wifes biggest gripe is having to move the porta-potti to the companion way when the V-berth is made up. For privacy during the day, I have a curtain that velcro's across the bulkhead when someone is using the head. At night .... well you just have to get to know each other a little more than some would like.... With no holding tank for gray water, it is sometimes inconvenient. We carry a jerry can to dump dishwater into until it can be properly disposed of. Some people have added more 12volt lights inside. You may want to consider this as it gets a little dim below. The trade off is how much battery you have/want. Storage is good. It is sometimes a pain to lift the cushions everytime you want something, but this goes back to what you expect and what you are used to. I hope this answers some of your questions. Please, ask if you have more. Lots of the folks here are eager to help. PS... Future posts concerning the h23 should be in the h23 category rather than general interest category. A few more h23 owners will see it and you will get more variety in responses. Welcome and HAVE FUN Ward

Welcome! As Ward said, you either love the H23 or hate it. Fortunately, this is where you will find the diehard H23 fans. Yes, the boat does have some flaws (mast raising can be a pain without a special rig) but few boats match it on the water, in terms of both performance and looks. When I was boat shopping I polled some H23 owners at my marina to see which trailerable sailboat in that size range they would get if money was no object. All said "H23" except for two who said "Precision 23", which is a very nice boat but costs almost twice as much. If you leave the boat in the water, consider adding a solar panel (at least 10W) to keep the battery charged. There is a wealth of information about the H23 in the archives and in the photo forum...enjoy! Happy sailing. Peter H23 "Raven"

Happy 12 year owner

I am the original owner of a 1988 H23. I have made many up grades to my H23. The best was a roller system for the Geona. I also added a charging system to my 5hp motor to recharge my battery and a volage gage. I tow my boat a lot. Make shore that you keep the wheel bearings GREASE with a good grease,Ihave hub buddys on my axels. I did have one major problem and that is the chane plates leak through the deck. I would rebed them every other year with a good caulk. I also would pay special attention the the side shroud,I had the middle brake on me and inturn lost my mast. Chech them for signs of age. But all in all it is agreat weaken boat. P.S. You can not tilt it to far.
