new home built boat boat launching

hi, gonna launch my home made bolger nymph in two days. I am wonderring the proper ceremonial cristenning agenda. I have been building it over the last 6 months or so-the book said"instant" boats, ha! But she is kindof pretty and i hope worth the time and effort.
My boys and friends will exspect a modest party/ceremony for its birth. I figure hambergs and dogs and pot salad. But what about the actual launching? what come to mind is cutting ribons, breaking champagne over the bow(forget it, might crack the damn thing) and so on. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated and welcomed. I will post a new topic and hopefully some in the water pics after the launch. Why did they break a bottle on the new boat? Any good launching poems and the like? Patrick (free boat)

Congratulations... post photos when you can. Pouring libations over the bow is acceptable in lieu of breaking the bottle, and does a lot less damage too... Be generous and use a good bottle... or the sea gods will be unhappy.

so that's the reason for adult beverage? To make the sea gods happy? Should it be a libation that I actually drink-rum & beer? And what about a sailors tribute ditty?

just want the boat to float
and enjoy some grog (drink)

oh nuts, 87 views so far and one courageous response, thanks Dog. I really enjoyed your electric link a few days ago, made it much more understandable for me the novice. Well, can't sleep (i work nights) so gonna finish the dink.

We want pics. As for the launching ceremony. I am not the least bit supersticious, so no formal ceremony for me. The sea gods do however appreciate a good time being had by all, and a little drink for them couldn't possibly hurt.
