just received a new marine head but ordered the marine size rather than the home size. Anyone use the marine size without problems or are they the most hated toilet on earth...

Everyone. What kind of problems do you fear? There's actually 3 sizes, Full, marine and bucket. The latter reporting the least number of problems..... because every sailor knows which way the wind blows.

If you can easily exchange it for a full size, you will be happier down the road. They really are more comfortable, and you won't be second guessing yourself later.

I assume it fits the space. Otherwise going larger might not be a good choice. But there isn't much difference space-wise.

If you can exchange, do. The standard home size is much more comfortable. If you can't exchange it, the bowl can be replaced. It will probably be a special order.

If you have a Catalina 30 you should check and see what size will fit in your boat. Catalina direct has a nice website with much information.
Also my 1 1/2” outlet line was to short for the new compact head style that I put in my C30 MK1 1983.

There's an old rule when it comes to measuring hoses: measure twice, cut once. If it's not new hose, it should be if it's more than 6-7 years old. I learned from more than one yard manager that 10 years is the average working life for any hose. not just sanitation, 'cuz rubber and plastics dry out over time, becoming hard, brittle and prone to cracking and splitting. Boat-US magazine ran an article several years ago in which they said old hoses connected to open below-waterline thru-hulls when no one is aboard is the leading cause of boats sinking in their slips.

As for exchanging a small bowl for the household size....you might find one at a yard. As owners are upgrading manual toilets or basic electrics for the all china thrones, they may have a household size you can get for free. I use to pick up 2-3 bowls in both sizes from my local yard every year to sell for a bargain price to owners who'd failed to winterize their toilets correctly and had cracked bowls in the spring. Worth a try anyway.
