Madam Head Mistress. You may note a certain 340 having been pirated from Greers Ferry Lake and now in my possesion; so i kindly repost this forum in your area for your highly respected advice! Attn Peggy and other 340 owners. I have just bought a previously owned 340. The Jabsco head pumps out but won't pull in fresh water. Seems the bowl holes are clogged. So which option would you choose: a)New2me boat and now out of cash: fittle futz with the old head and overhaul it hoping to make it right. b)Damn the torpedoes and order a whole new Jabsco head from West Marine while they are 30% off and bolt it right up-(did that on the old 29.5) c)NO QUARTERS! Buy a brand spanking new PH-II and be done with it! But will the PH-II fit in the 340 with MINIMAL effort? (Peggy, that is the head you recommended wasn't it)

Bite the bullet and buy a PH II

It's HIGHLY unlikely that ALL holes in the channel in the rim of the bowl would be totally clogged...that not even a trickle can get through even one of 'em. If you're not seeing ANY water in the bowl, the pump isn't bringing in any (are you sure the thru-hull is open?). You could go cheap and replace it with another Jabsco that MIGHT give you two whole years of trouble-free service...or you can spend a bit more for the only toilet you'll ever have to buy: a PH II. The best price I've seen for a PH II is here: http://www.boatfix.com/elec/rarph2.asp $258. You might even be able to beat that if you shop a bit The PHC (not shown on the boatfix site, but they can give you a quote) is the same pump, but on a compact base to fit in a tighter space. Btw...where's the boat now?

Trickle trickle

Peggy, I get just a trick so I'll try the white vinegar wash recommended in the archives. Thru-hull is definately open so maybe a little compressed air blow out? The boat is at Beaver now. Any other suggestions?

I don't think the holes are plugged...

It's not uncommon for SEA water minerals to build up in the intake hose and channel in the rim of the bowl, but almost unheard of in fresh water. You can find out very easily: ream out a couple of the holes with an ice pick. If that doesn't improve the flow of water through those holes at least a little, the pump isn't bring any in. If it does, THEN use vinegar to dissolve the build up. I was hoping the boat was bit closer to LR than Beaver is...I was gonna offer to trade you a "house call" for an afternoon sail. :)

NEBCO is coming

Peggy, the BLSC Nebco Regatta is Sept 17. You are hereby officially invited-but I'm going to fix that head before then! It worked for the survey and then died-figures! Send me your email address and I'll send you Notice of Race for the NEBCO. Short drive from LR for a good time and you could sell some books and product.

I would LOVE to come...any other weekend....

I'll be in Seattle Sept 13-19 for the Lake Union boat show. But I'd love to come next year...or for any other event...or just to go sailing.

Bring your head this weekend

Peggy, I just got back from a quick run to the lake. One of the projects I worked on was the J-head (Jabsco). My conclusion is that if you have a PH-II in your trunk you can sail Saturday! Everyone should read the thread on this same issue in the 340 forum AND that ranting by the so call truth squad. I hope the PH bolts up easily because I'm ready to start sailing this boat. Although I enjoy some modsimprovements and repairs, the head work is not so appealing. However-it sounds like I may need some hose and request a 90 degree fitting?

I don't sell toilets any more, Andy...

In fact, haven't had ANYTHING to sell (not even my own book) since I sold my company in 1999. Shop around for the best price on the toilet (PH II or PHC---get the dimensions for both from the Raritan website and measure the space in your head to know which will fit)...Order the toilet and give me a shout when you get it.
