Good morning I own a 98 26H and it is time to replace both the main and jib halyards. The manual says for the main halyard 5/16 (8mm) LS small eye D Shackle 88ft Blue jib halyard 5/16 (8mm) LS small eye D Shackle 80ft Red According to other posts I have been reading they suggest going down one size in thickness so as to make it easier to raise and lower the sails. Has anyone with a H26 or H260 replaced there halyards? If so what did you use? And where did you order it from? Thanks in advance Chris sv Charisma

Chris, usually those suggestions are . . .
for halyards 3/8 or larger to take a step down in size. 5/16 is small enough to avoid sheave friction if the sheaves are sized properly. Besides, the next size down is 1/4 and that is very small for a halyard - your hands and winch will have some difficulty with that diameter. A best solution might be a new, good quality (NER Sta-Set X or better) 5/16 line.

Remember when you consider downsizing that the jib halyard is what you are using to raise your mast. That is one line you really don't want to snap in that process.

...is definately the prefered option. You may want to consider a spectra core over Sta Set X. Spectra core line is way stronger than even much bigger double braid and is not as stiff as Sta Set X. It will cost a bit more, but you can get some good deals on line. Cajun Trading has great pricing and will make your halyards any size or color. http://www.cajuntrading.ca/index.htm
