Hunter 1980 Hunter 30 San Diego, Mission Bay
Hi all -
I'm the new owner of Cutlass, a 1980 H30. Actually, I've had the boat about a year, but just found this site a few weeks ago. Its a great site, with a wealth of useful information.

Cutlass is a great little boat. She sails well, looks good to my eye, and is very comfortable for my partner Nancy and I. I keep the boat at Marina Village on Mission Bay in San Diego. From the dock its a ten minute power cruise out to the open ocean. So far we've just taken the boat for day sails and one overnighter to San Diego harbor; hopefully next summer we'll get out to Catalina.

Considering the the boat is over 30 years old, she's in great shape. I've had to deal with a few minor issues (frozen main halyard pulley, leaky deck drain, leaky port lights), but nothing too serious. Over time, I want to upgrade the electronics (could use an auto pilot) and would like to add an asymmetrical spinnaker and a working jib. But for now, the boat is just great fun and a joy to sail. I'm so happy I picked the Hunter, and very glad I found this forum.

Regards,
Gary

Welcome aboard Gary. Always good to see a new Cherubini owner. Lots of knowledgeable H30 owners hang out here. Went to boot camp not too far from your bay in 1962. Does that make me old? Sailed one time there, on a big old schooner whose name I do not recall. We went out with one of the old America's Cup boats, a "Stars and Stripes". This is a great place to learn and share.

I'm also an H30 owner, 1982 version, DreamBoat, keep her on Fowl river, off Mobile Bay, in South Alabama. The Cherubini Hunters are great boats! I've had DreamBoat for going on 7 years, and have spent many great weekends on her. I'm in the middle of replacing my Yanmar right now, but haven't had to do much else to her.
I have sailed on Mission Bay before, we have family that live in the San Diego area, and when we were the nephew's HS graduation last June, we rented a Catalina 25 for a couple of days, so the I could put "sailed in the Pacific" on my resume. That's a wonderful city for a sailor. I just wish I could afford to live there.
I think you have found a very good resource for information on a very good boat. If you search the forum archives, you can find the answer to any of your questions about the Hunter 30. Everyone here is very helpful.

Thanks guys. I've been a dinghy sailor all my life, having owned and raced such boats as Lasers, Flying Dutchman and 505s (I still have one of these). This is my first foray into owning a keelboat. Its really been fun. Looking forward to keeping the boat for a long time.
