Since I am still in the deciding stages, I am interested in hearing your thoughts and preferences on a 150 versus a 120 Genoa? I sail in the Gulf of Mexico, and plan to cruse down the coast to the Keys and Dry Tortugas.

Would love to hear your thoughts on pros/ cons of larger versus smaller for an O'Day 25.

Paul,

I seldom jump over on this forum. I usually am on the owners forum.

Which version of the 25 do you have? Shoald or fin keel?

If you have shoal version, I would think that the 150 would over power the boat. My opinion is that the 120 would be better. If you want a light wind sail, get a kite.

I have the shoal draft model and sail with a 135. It's good up to about 15 kts. After that I furl it as low as 110. Love the sail. I had a 150 that came with the boat that definitely overpowered it on heavy air days.

I have a 150 on my O'Day 22 and yes it is too much sail on heavy air days but that's when the Genoa gets furled. I love the 150 on the light air days? You can always furl down.
